Burden of a thousand kisses
M. Yusuf Abbasi
The sky is clad in a leaden murk
And winter winds sigh
Like lost souls
In the long deserted lanes
An eerie silence reigns
And there burns a lamp
Behind its red glow
In a sleepy shadow
She sits waiting, waiting ...
For the sound of unknown feet
Till weariness descends
On her jaded frame
Dead!
Under the burden
Of a thousand kisses.
Still she sits waiting, waiting ...
A dark silhouette
In the faint glow
Of a flickering flame -
A purple apparition
Ranging in endless moments -
An errant soul
Ebbing away
In the agony
Of a sleepless night.
